Buying an Office Chair - Part 1
BUYING A GOOD OFFICE CHAIR
"You spend more time in your chair at work than your couch
at home. Why pay less for your chair?"

There are several critical aspects to using a good office chair. It is important to realize that the proper use of a good chair is not something everyone knows, because not everyone has a good office chair at present. Furthermore, it is important to realize that unless you use a good office chair correctly, then the effectiveness of the chair in reducing discomforts and increasing productivity will be reduced.
Upon receiving your chair, you should review the following tips. First, it is important to understand the proper sitting posture while using a computer. This is shown at the right. It is important to realize that this position is not something that should be maintained 8 hours per day. It is important to change postures and get up out of the chair periodically and move around. Additional tips to using a good office chair are listed below.
  • Take a break and get out of the chair at least every hour.
  • Be sure you know what each control does and how it works.
  • Be sure to repair any defects immediately.
  • Be sure to have someone help you to be sure the chair is adjusted properly.
  • Follow the manufacturers instructions for care and use.
  • Ensure proper arrangement of other equipment and activities around your chair.
  • Be sure the backrest is properly positioned in the small of your back and provides sufficient tension.
  • Be sure your chair is adjusted so that your upper legs and lower arms are parallel to the floor while typing. If your feet do not touch the floor, then a footrest needs to be provided.
  • Adjust the arms to support your lower arms without your shoulders shrugging, your torso leaning to one side, or your elbows extended from your side.
Following these simple rules and purchasing a good office chair will help promote a happy healthy back and keep you comfortable and productive.
