GENERAL OFFICE ERGONOMICS
"Improving your safety and productivity while increasing your comfort"

There are several workplace musculoskeletal disorders that have been associated with office work. Early symptoms include stiffness, dull aches/pains, and loss of coordination or control. Advanced symptoms include numbness, tingling, burning, and persistent pain. These symptoms will impact your ability to work comfortably and productively. Employees with these symptoms need to notify their supervisor, health care provider or health/safety representative as soon as possible as delay could result in less conservative treatments and perhaps permanent disability. It is important to note that these symptoms are likely related to lifestyle, age, physical health and off-work activities, but notification still needs to happen.
Not everyone that types on a computer should be concerned about related workplace illnesses. People using computers less than two hours per day are generally not at risk. People using computers more than four hours per day need to review this information. People using computers between two and four hours per day are probably not at risk, but should be aware of symtpoms and notify the appropriate health care provider or supervisor.
